Wow. We just finished posting about the demise of Stylephile, and then we flicked over to Gawker and found out that the men's fashion industry newspaper DNR folded today. The bodies are piling high, people. The brother of WWD, DNR will be remembered for breaking news about men's designers first, parsing out the obscure language of the retail and manufacturing sectors of our industry for us math idiots, and generally keeping us in the loop. It is survived by its small cadre of readers and subscribers, analysts, and the many staffers who will soon be updating their resumes. We wish them all luck. (Gawker)

Sure, we've hit the Second Depression, but apparently some didn't get the memo. For the new magazine Tar, which celebrated it's launch last night with its not first, not second, but third elaborate event (other parties were held in London and Paris) the good times are still rolling. The party was hosted by Johan Lindberg who so kindly opened up his home to 200 or so magazine contributors, fashionistas, and perfect strangers. And what a home it was... an awesome three-story brick-walled space with cathedral-high ceilings on the top floor and a partially glass floor (not to mention a stunning room for his little ones).

Revelers included magazine founder Maurizio Marchiori, The Lindbergs (of course), Slater Bradley, Leo Fitzpatrick, Philip Crangi, Louis Terline of Oak, and Barneys' doyen Julie Gilhart. We overheard one party goer exclaim, "I've seen, like, six girls underwear tonight!" Certainly, there were plenty of opportunities for up-skirt peeps on the thin staircases and through the glass floor on the third floor. ]]>

A low-volume performance by semi-drag performer Kalup Linzy, on one of the aforementioned staircases changed the mood from festive to quietly introspective (errr). Still, we persevered cozy in a throne-like white easy chair with our free Peroni enjoying the view the view. Maybe the Second Depression won't be that depressing after all.

It was cold, cold, cold outside the grand opening of the Via Spiga store on Broadway in Soho, which made us appreciate the warm welcome made by waiters offering gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches all the more. It was a night of two debuts—that of the mirror-lined store with its lush banquette couches, lux Via Spiga goods, an indoor fountain as well as the first showing of Vena Cava's shoes for the high-end brand. Their suede, metal-adorned wedges and marbled heels were solid, but it was the chunky chain thong sandals that really impressed us with their chic kink. Yes, CFDA runners-up Sophie Buhai and Lisa Mayock were in the house and we extended our congratulations between glasses of Champers. But, honestly, if we're going to remember one thing about the night, it was the food—the Parmesan balls, the mini-meatball burgers, the chocolate truffles, the salmon roe, the… excuse us, we have to go get a snack.

Launching with about 120 pieces for boys and girls ages 2 to 14, we expect nothing less than gender bending, Baroque-inspired drama for tots. To boot, Danish designer Henrik Vibskov recently teamed up with high-end pram and stroller line, Quinny, to produce some highly graphic wheels for the youngens. And with Acne and Surface to Air outfitting the kids in printed tees and skinny jeans to adorable results, we got to thinking about other designers who could maximize on this trend for the diminutive. Zoophilia: Beloved sonic alchemists Animal Collective have just announced winter tour dates (New York is January 20, btw) to support their upcoming ninth album, Merriweather Post Pavilion. Andy Beta writes on his blog that the records sounds like the Brooklyn quartet has, "discovered ecstasy," and, "been hanging out in Berlin techno clubs on tour,"—something supported by the album's mind-warping cover art. While you have to wait until January for the full LP, you can listen to the album's closer, the afro-tropicalic "Brother Sport." Panda Bear's beach-boy melody opens the affair, which then slips without warning into an acid-techno torrent, then to a plateau of dense, swirling vocals and tribal beats. Heady, intoxicating stuff.

Editors in Chief 2008 is officially The Year of The Edit. Canyon Dancing, the latest EP from Brooklyn duo Cousin Cole & Pocketknife, takes the edit knife to recent indie rock gems—Yeasayer, the Liars, "Atlas" by Battles—and jacks them up into a fist-pumping Jock Jams.
