On the Scene: Yigal Azrouël

The Indian Summer beat down on the streets of Chelsea Friday afternoon as fashion folk headed over to Yigal Azrouël at Eyebeam Studios. The first "see and be seen" show of the season brought out lots of black town-cars and those who ride in 'em: a well-suited Andre Leon Talley, a purple-panted Waris of House of Waris, a sparkle-phone-grasping J. Alexander from ANTM, a Blackberry-clutching Nigel Barker, and a slew of socialite / model / artist types who somehow never seem to sweat, while the rest of us look hot and bothered. We chatted up a few of our favorite ladies to see what's good: frontrow_yigalazrouel3.jpg

Nina Garcia, Fashion Director at Marie Claire, judge on Project Runway

What shows are you looking forward to?
"I'm excited for the young designers… Alex Wang, Jason Wu, Chris Benz… for example. And then of course Francisco Costa who has a big anniversary this year at Calvin, and of course I'm excited to see Michael's [Kors] show."

Kind of crappy FW weather, huh?
"There was a year when we had a Tornado…this is nothing!"

Cory Kennedy
Is this your fashion-week kickoff?
"Yeah, pretty much. I went to Erin Wasson's launch last night, which was cool."

What's your summer been like?
"Been doing a lot of stuff for NYLON, working on some personal projects, been lovin' New York…"

Where can we find you tonight after the shows?
"On my couch."

What was the objective this morning when getting dressed?
"I just didn't want to sweat, so I wore white…after Labor day."

Zani Gugelmann, model/jewelry designer

What shows are you heading to?
"This season I'm learning to say "NO"—so I'm only going to my friends' shows—I love Yigal as a friend and designer and I'm wearing him head to toe— no one else can make two layered tank-tops look this good."

Do anything fun over the summer?
"Road-tripping! I drove around New Mexico with some Italian friends—it was amazing. Then I popped through L.A. a couple of times, and then my mom and I just did a birthday trip to St. Barths over Labor Day."

P.S. Yigal loves safe sex—his goodie bags were stocked with designer condoms courtesy of Proper Attire, and Yigal himself was in charge of designing the packaging… too bad Bristol Palin doesn't make it to more fashion shows…
