Lighten Up! Jay Kos' Spring 2010 Line Pushes Pastels For Men

jay-kos-spring-2010-1.jpg

Now that it's pitch black by 6:00 pm, pastel anything is a welcome sight. Classy menswear in pastel, however, is a whole other kind of nice. Jay Kos delivers the goods with a spring 2010 collection of sportswear and accessories that turn any gent into a dapper box of mints—and we mean that in the most masculine way possible! Designer Jay Kos' unique take on dressing comes from his small-town upbringing and a need to add a splash of color to the conformist attitudes around him. He did so with a balance of grey tones and leather, turning out a look that reads of confidence and of-the-moment debonaire. We can't get over the Alabaster Sport Coat and array of Suede Bucks—here's to more men wearing pastel in the new year!

Alicia Keys Has the Same Taste in Jewelry As Your Elementary School Art Teacher

alicia-keys-jewelry-1.jpg

Miss Alicia Keys' resume is nothing to be scoffed at. Since appearing on The Cosby Show at age four, she's sold a gazillion albums, earned 12 Grammys, acted in three films, and is responsible for the insanely-catchy "Empire State of Mind," which has been playing on repeat in our heads for two months now. Despite her Midas touch, Alicia might want to think twice before expanding her jewelry-making venture. Pictures from her new line "The Barber's Daughters" emerged this morning, and we had to blink twice to make sure that the insanely talented 28-year-old could have produced something that would look right at home atop of a Christopher Banks sweater. The silver and gemstone pieces are inscribed with poetry and retail between $85 to $2500. "Jewelry is a first step," says Alicia, though she's thinking of expanding into accessories. If it's going to be anything like the jewelry, stay tuned for embroidered "fashion sandals" and long handled-hobo bags. Oy. (WWD)

Another one to cut and run over at 4TS: Vogue's design director of four years, Danko Steiner, is leaving to pursue photography. (WWD)

Take a look inside the new Prada book to get your fill of 30 years of Miuccia's design prowess. (Frillr)

Didn't quite make it in for the Jil Sander +J line for Uniqlo? Fret not! Round two's coming at you next spring! (Fashion Week Daily)

Blah, blah, something about vampires, yay New Moon, pphhfffftttt. (FabSugar)

Giant man and non-fashion person Shaquille O'Neal is curating a gallery show in NY titled—get this—"Size DOES Matter." It gets better: The Chelsea exhibit will be full of pieces of things being really big (or really small...but maybe only because it looks that way when compared to The Big Aristotle). (ANIMAL)

"A few seasons ago I decided to have a screen in my studio, so when I did the fittings I would look at the screen. I'm really scared of bloggers, and I know this is how they judge me. But I realized that whatever looks good on screen doesn't always feel good on the body. So I decided to leave the computer -- sorry to the lady from Google [Marissa Mayer, who was in attendance] -- and I went back to trust my eyes. And that's what I do in fashion." - Alber Elbaz from Lanvin. We feel ya dude—There's something patently frightening about a 16-year-old with a computer and an attitude. (Fashionologie)
