Afterlife: New Chloé Designer Brings the It Girl Wardrobe Back to Life

chloe1006a.jpg

After a few seasons of relative anonymity (designer Phoebe Philo left some BIG platforms to fill when she headed over to Celine), Chloé emerged this season with a new designer at the helm—Hannah MacGibbon, who not coincidentally worked with Philo in the late '90s—and a fresh new look. Verdict? We loved it. The heavenly scalloping (a brilliant feminine accent that wasn't too girly), the '80s volume done right at the thigh, the springtime-perfect color palette. Not to be general, but it was all pretty gorgeous, and might we say, ever so reminiscent of the Karl Lagerfeld-Chloé years.

gimmicky

ugh! i loved the chloe of stella & phoebe times, and even liked the direction andersson was going -- albeit they didn't give him enough time to grow in the house (in my opinion). this collection looks awkward. that scalloped edging was done to great effect at christopher kane, but this looks like child's play.
