Fantasy Island: Sequins and Show-stoppers Top Lists for Best Buys in a Sucky Economy

sequinpants_economy.jpgWith less to spend, you'd think all those clothing whores out there would be extra shrewd about where they slap down their Amex for. Well, according to a recent story in JC Report, they are. The purchases however, are not exactly what you'd expect. "There's an element of fantasy going on, " says Jenny Le of Opening Ceremony. "Our customers are buying more daring pieces, perhaps to escape from the world." Sarah Easley of Kirna Zabête agrees, saying, "Staples are always popular, but we're also selling a lot of crazy, playful things." Across the board though, whether we're buying white tank-tops or party dresses, consumers are paying closer attention to what they're hauling to checkout. "Shoppers aren't buying less," Easley says. "They're just choosing more carefully." (JC Report)
