CFDA Winners' Dream Designs for Mrs. Obama's Inauguration Gown

The clock is ticking—Michelle Obama has only two weeks—TWO WEEKS!—to set out her wardrobe for the Inauguration day ceremonies and balls. While many assume that she's already selected a few looks from Maria Pinto, a favorite of the First Lady-To-Be, Style.com has requested sketches for dresses and gowns from recent CFDA winners for an adoring public to enjoy. Of course, we've been down this road before with WWD similar collection of designs last month. This roundup, however, includes younger, fresher names hot off the Fashion Fund awards podium: Marchesa, Albertus Quartus, Vena Cava, Derek Lam, Doo.Ri, and this year's winner, Alexander Wang. Again, the sketches are more than half the fun here—Doo Ri Chung's simple, Jackson-Pollock-print dress, a lovely look, becomes downright Cubist with her Picasso-like portrait of Mrs. Obama. Derek Lam shows that he's just as elegant with pencil and pen as he is with cloth and thread while the ladies of Vena Cava offer their priestess gown with a delicious high-school-sketchbook flair. Sleekest of all, however, is Wang's LBD—hot to be sure, but can America accept a First Lady showing that much leg? There's only so much change one can handle. (Style.com)
