For the Ladies: Victor Glemuad Sweaters at Henri Bendel

victor_henribendel.jpgVictor Glemaud, the creator of simple, unconventional, tromp-leoi menswear is, as they say, money in our book. Imagine our excitement when we heard that this rambunctious boy's designer, who's fond of layering his cardigans and attaching false collars, would be designing a line of sweaters to that most fem of fem outfitters, Henri Bendel. Now, it's little wonder that Glemaud's first design for the Fifth Avenue women's Mecca is a knit cashmere cardigan—afterall, humorous, intelligent takes on sweaters are his forte. Also, for anyone who saw his recent collection, the fact that the limited-edition pieces are faux-layered (a cardi attached a leopard-print blouse front) is no big jump. The real surprise is that—for a designer who dresses his men like beach boy toys—his reinterpretation of the Upper-East-Side cashmere-and-animal-print uniform is so mature, and, dare we say, old-fashioned sexy. Again, Glemaud's slight of hand has pulled the wool over on us.

The Victor Glemaud limited-edition layered cardigan will be available at Henri Bendel, 712 5th Avenue, New York, 212-247-1100. for more information go to www.henribendel.com.
