How 'Bout 'Dem Buttons? Style Savvy Obama Outstripping McCain

RIVALBUTTONS1021.jpg

Amidst all the frenzy surrounding this year's presidential campaigns, one thing that's become abundantly clear is Obama's primacy over McCain in terms of garnering friends and inspiring trends within the world of fashion. According to WWD, "an analysis of campaign contributions from executives and employees of 27 department stores and mass retailers and apparel vendors during the election cycle shows the industry lining up almost two to one in favor of electing Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama." At Portland-based retailer Fred Meyer, where political T-shirts are, "flying off the shelves in record numbers this election year," Obama shirts are outselling those of McCain and Palin combined. To top it all off (before it's really topped off in November) and give credit where it's due, Advertising Age has just named team Obama "Marketer of the year." All this to say—it's never been so cool to be blue. (WWD)
