Away, You Vultures: Newhouse Calls "Bullshit" on Wintour Rumors
Wow, it was a whole eight hours before that bubble burst. S.I. Newhouse Jr., Chairman of Condé Nast, flatly denied that Carine Roitfeld of French Vogue would be replacing her American counterpart, Lady Anna Countess of Wintour, next year. Newhouse, whose meeting with Roitfeld in Europe this week started the gossip, said, "This is the silliest rumor I ever heard," through a spokesman. Seems the scuttlebutt, broadcast by Gawker's post was so inflammatory that S.I. had to respond himself—something media barons don't normally do. Well kids, it was fun while it lasted. (WSJ)
