Tina Brown's New Pet: The Daily Beast Debuts

beast1006.jpgNo longer must we wonder, "Whither Tina Brown?" After her ouster at The New Yorker, the folding of her own magazine Talk, the cancellation of her cable talk show, and the middling sales of her book, we began to wonder if the publishing major domo was ever going to stalk the block again. But all that waiting is over as Brown has just launched her own blog, The Daily Beast. Listen, don't get us wrong. Rattling off a list of Brown's failed ventures does not mean we don't seriously love the woman. From Art Cooper to Anna Wintour, Refinery loves big-gun editors, be they friendly or fiendish—and Brown is just such a figure. Clearly, The Daily Beast is a proto-HuffPo in the making, and shows signs of Brown's intellectual, personality-based, bared-teeth form of mag journalism. Already she has Christiane Amanpour, Farnoosh Torabi, Stanley Crouch, and Bill Fucking Clinton on her roster of columnists. Of particular interest to us is the strangely self-conscious post on indulgent parenting by season three Project Runway contestant Laura Bennett (you remember, the pregnant redhead who looked like she would cut you as soon as look at you.) Sure, it smells like a vanity project—but so is Purple. Anyways, we're just all atwitter waiting for their style vertical. (The Daily Beast via Gawker)
