Will the Bubble Burst?: Wondering About the Future of Pop Magazine

A few weeks back when we heard that Katie Grand, editor and stylist who helped launch both Another Magazine and Dazed & Confused, was leaving her role as Editor-in-Chief of POP to start a new high-end fashion magazine for Condé Nast UK, we were concerned about the fate of one of our favorite rags. Her yet-to-be-named biannual will be "edgy and experimental," according to the publisher, and will have a "larger format, bigger budgets and broader horizons" than POP. Says Katie, "I'm really looking forward to building up a new magazine from scratch again—a fresh start is always fun, and we have lots of ideas we can't wait to start working on." Okay, that's all well and good—but what about the title she's leaving? Currently, reports—and this post from Fashionologie, suggest that POP will continue to exist and this is just a regular editor turnover. Certainly, both Dazed and Another have soldiered on without her, both losing some of their original feel, but maintaining their pep and expanding their reader base. Still, we can't help but feel a little on edge here. From where we sit, Talk was to Tina Brown or George was to John F. Kennedy Jr., Katie Grand's current magazine rests on the shoulders of Katie Grand and we can't help but feel that our favorite glossies is going to be stuck in limboland. (Fashionologie)
