You Don't Know Jack…Yet: Jack Spade to Start Menswear Line

jack1013.jpgWell, actually, we do know Jack—very well. Most of us around the office can recall when the masculine offshoot of Kate Spade opened its door on Greene Street and can easily remember when Andy Spade launched the accessories line in 1999 (was it really nine years ago? Sheesh!) But there's a new wrinkle here. While Andy's off doing other things and the Kate Spade brand has become a house for several team-based designers, Jack Spade itself has been growing and growing—a trend that's come to a head with today's announcement that Jack Spade will soon have its own, full menswear line. According to DNR, current Jack Spade vice-president and general manager Cuan Hanly—formerly of Paul Smith and Penguin—was brought on only a month ago, suggesting that this was a move that had been cooking for some time. Given what we've already seen from Jack Spade over the years and the leaps Penguin took under Hanly, we can expect highly American, slightly bookish, and very sharp sweaters, shirts, and jackets from the line, which will be available at Bloomingdale's, Barneys, and Fred Segal. We assume it will be at the old Jack Spade store on Greene—though we really don't know how they'll fit all that stuff into that tiny, little box. (DNR)
