Dark Moody: Chronicles of Never

chroniclesofnever_coll1.jpg

Taking the best parts of all its influences—the cube in cubism, the neo in neo-ism, the space in space—Chronicles of Never has crafted a collection that is, without a doubt, enigmatic.
We got to check designer Gareth Moody's work out for ourselves the other night at the opening party for his spring 2009 collection at Assembly and were fully impressed by the blousey minimalism on display. Mixing equal parts German severity, French bohemia, and Lord of the Rings draping, Aussie designer Moody (formerly of Ksubi) has arrived at a relaxed, unusual look all his own. Oversized shirts, loose-cropped pants, and draped scarves are all in black and white with a few accent pieces in shades of grey. Who else makes black leather football shorts with frayed satin underpinnings?
