Sure, we've hit the Second Depression, but apparently some didn't get the memo. For the new magazine
Tar, which celebrated it's launch last night with its not first, not second, but third elaborate event (other parties were held in
London and Paris) the good times are still rolling. The party was hosted by Johan Lindberg who so kindly opened up his home to 200 or so magazine contributors, fashionistas, and perfect strangers. And what a home it was... an awesome three-story brick-walled space with cathedral-high ceilings on the top floor and a partially glass floor (not to mention a stunning room for his little ones).

Revelers included magazine founder Maurizio Marchiori, The Lindbergs (of course), Slater Bradley, Leo Fitzpatrick, Philip Crangi, Louis Terline of Oak, and Barneys' doyen Julie Gilhart. We overheard one party goer exclaim, "I've seen, like, six girls underwear tonight!" Certainly, there were plenty of opportunities for up-skirt peeps on the thin staircases and through the glass floor on the third floor.

It was cold, cold, cold outside the grand opening of the Via Spiga store on Broadway in Soho, which made us appreciate the warm welcome made by waiters offering gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches all the more. It was a night of two debuts—that of the mirror-lined store with its lush banquette couches, lux Via Spiga goods, an indoor fountain as well as the first showing of
Vena Cava's shoes for the high-end brand. Their suede, metal-adorned wedges and marbled heels were solid, but it was the chunky chain thong sandals that really impressed us with their chic kink. Yes,
CFDA runners-up Sophie Buhai and Lisa Mayock were in the house and we extended our congratulations between glasses of Champers. But, honestly, if we're going to remember one thing about the night, it was the food—the Parmesan balls, the mini-meatball burgers, the chocolate truffles, the salmon roe, the… excuse us, we have to go get a snack.
Above, left to right: Sophie Buhai and Lisa Mayock of Vena Cava, Lena Jung, intern, Vena Cava.
The shoes, my God, the shoes.

The Bowery Hotel was home to one of downtown's more civilized parties last night as the hotel hosted the
Humane Society's Cool vs. Cruel event. The event started promptly at 7 and people were being ushered out at 9 on the dot. Organized with the intention of honoring design students for their efforts to be cruelty free, people seemed to be more entranced by
Agyness Deyn and Albert Hammond Jr.'s lovey-dovey ways in the DJ booth, where they remained most of the evening except to make a brief (publicist-escorted) walk-through. The rest of the guest list included MANY Bravo network stars (
Jay McCarroll, Suede, and
Ronnie from
Make Me a Supermodel), multitalented
Charlotte Ronson,
ANTM's Nigel Barker, and the to-be-expected mash-up of New York
It people and pseudo-celebs. After panicking about wearing vintage suede shoes, we were delighted and disheartened at the amount of leather dotting the crowd. But the highlight of the night had to be when the coat-check girl told us how a woman actually wore a fur coat to the event, and cowered away as she was leaving with it! Any idea who would do such a thing?

We had a moment of panic when we saw the line extending down the block outside the
New Museum last night for the launch party of Six Scents. We quickly realized it was a line for one of the last-remaining flop houses on the Bowery and not connected to the very different line outside the museum. Oh how the Bowery has changed! But we
digress… Inside in of the very un-floppy galleries, a serious fashion set celebrated the launch of fragrances curated by
Seven New York's Joseph Quartana and designed by
Preen,
Jeremy Scott,
Alexandre
Herchcovitch,
Bernhard Willhelm, and
Gareth Pugh (a portion of proceeds goes to Designers Against AIDS). Guests bent over scent-infused dark Plexiglas columns representing each fragrance. We couldn't help but love the scents' names—"Urban
Tropicalia" for Herchcovitch, "Teen Spirit" for Preen, and "Illicit Sex" for Jeremy Scott.
Misshapes Geordon Nicol and
Leigh Lezark (wearing a bizarre Herchcovitch creation) DJed and a crowd of designers—including
Gareth Pugh,
Victoria Bartlett,
Cindy Greene, and
Gabi of ThreeAsFour—swilled drinks and mingled with stylists
Natasha Royt,
Keeghan Singh, and
Haidee Findlay-Levitt. We spoke briefly to Gabi of ThreeAsFour, who created a scent for Symrise a few years ago and was, "excited to see the project continued." By the
end of the night the ratio of photographers to guests was so high that our friend
Pete Miszuk refused to take any shots. As you can see below, we kept snapping. Smell you later!

Good thing we RSVP'd to last night's
DDCLab & CITY mag party honoring the opening of the fashion house's latest Mercer Street flagship. The space was packed to say the least, but there was plenty of eye-candy to be seen, from the gorgeous new space to the cocktail-swilling attendees. Harley Viera Newton DJed everything from Mr. Postman to Prince to Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. Our latest personal-style muse Zoe Kravitz held court in the back hanging with friends and dancing around with a toy pig on the astroturf floor. We extended a quick Hiya to
CITY fashion editor Julie Ragolia, gave DDC designer Savania Davies-Keiller a smooch, and then went on our merry way. But here are some pics in case you missed it...

With Halloween falling on the Friday before the election this year, there was a double-dose of pent-up energy for the holiday. And there was no better way to relieve it than at the Hornitos Tequila sponsored Day of the Dead-themed party. The fete was held at a huge warehouse-like space on Cortland Alley and
hosted by Earnest Sewn's Carlos Quirarte, Matt Creed, Matt Kleigman, and Taavo Somer of Freeman's fame. Somer described the decorations as "like the set of
¡Three Amigos! during Día de los Muertos as seen through a tribal pink mescaline dew." With Hornipolitans in hand, guests rocked out to performances by local favorites
Lissie Trullie and The Virgins. Party attendees of the night included
Mary Kate Olsen, Nate Lowman, Theodora Richards, Harley Viera Newton, Leo Fitzpatrick, and Rogan, who was dressed as a giant Jesus roaming around on stilts.

Our Style Director,
Piera Gelardi, was judging the midnight costume competition, along with
Scott Campbell, Waris, and Julie Gilhart, but didn't hear her name called. Our absentee vote named
Gia Bahm—dressed as
this iconic Annie Leibovitz photo of John Lennon and Yoko Ono—the winner. Side note: Our friend Shelly lost her wallet that night.
Ay carumba! But it was returned to her yesterday by the bartender Juan who found and returned three wallets that night. What a guy!
